Imara Private Equity is responsible for managing balance sheet and 3rd party capital in African private equity.

Investing in East and Southern Africa, Imara Private Equity seek to maximise capital returns to both our investors and business partners by utilising the Imara and FWA network and experience from years of investing across the continent.


We invest in mid-cap African businesses across all sectors:

  • with quality management and proven experience
  • with scalable business models and
  • generating high and defendable returns on capital

We prefer to invest in high growth businesses that require between $3M and $20M of capital in exchange for at least a significant minority equity stake, plus board representation.

We can invest through direct equity and/or quasi equity in:

  • management buyout, management buy-in transactions
  • fresh growth capital injections
  • replacement capital deals


Imara principals have more than 30 years combined experience investing and building businesses in Africa.

With a strong network of on the ground advisors and industry experts the team work very closely with portfolio companies to maximise growth and returns on capital.

The team have completed five transactions in the last four years raising more than US$30m for high growth SMEs in Africa.

Yellowstripe Resources Ltd

In 2016 we partnered with management to build a manufacturing plant in the Copper-Belt region of Zambia. The plant was commissioned in February 2018 and manufactures steel and high chrome mill-balls from scrap metal for use in semi-autogenous grinding mills in the mining process and selling to copper mines in Zambia and DRC.

ZBC is located near Chisamba, 20km North of Lusaka, Zambia. A joint venture between Zambezi Ranching Cropping, one of the largest agribusinesses in Zambia and United Exports an Australian breeder and marketer of Blueberries and Stonefruit.
